I enliven, embellish, or intensify everyday experiences. And this exercise in individual survival also has a social dimension. I am entertaining company, a lively conversationalist, and a thoughtful listener. That is why I know that the voice of my literary persona must reflect my own tone—to be entertaining, lively, and thoughtful—and avoid pretentious pronouncements. And that is what I am doing, trying to put my dreamy voice into words, intoning evocations of reality and desire.
