The dreadful death of my parents
during the celebration of my birthday had left me all alone at the age of
eleven; hence, my godparents, Zacarías and Isabel, felt forced to adopt me.
My maternal grandparents were not
worried about my orphanhood. They have never regarded me as one of their own.
They consider me to be the son of my father, not of their daughter. In fact,
they prevented my attendance at mom's funeral; whom they buried in the pantheon
of the Seco-Eván family without paying any honour to her life circumstances, as
if she had never been a mother nor a wife.
I came to know that two years after the tragedy, my godparents had reached my grandparents to ask them to allow me the access to the mausoleum where my mother's body rests. As reply, they received a letter from the law firm that handles the legal affairs of my grandparents here in San Agustín del Campo. Zacarías and Isabel read it in secret; ever since then, their proposal to take me along to visit my mother's grave fell in the limbo of their silence, not in my forgetfulness.
They would not talk about it
again: my godparents avoid breathing the life of sound to what they think is
better dead in silence.
