The other day, my friend Larry advocated the need for an active popular reaction to the dismantling, by public authorities, of the minimal social structures of equality and protection we have been able to provide ourselves within this interim period of democracy.
I don't share that line of reaction, despite disbelieving in delegating my protection to elected officials or apathetic public servants. I don't resort to the public health service to alleviate my mild malaises; I choose to take care of myself or endure them. I believe that the tool we humble people have to avoid feeling like "tools of the System" is, individually, self-care. Collectively, we must resort to solidarity among equals and support those in harsher situations than we are.
